Thursday, August 14, 20142:00 PM - 2:15 PMCNLS Conference Room (TA-3, Bldg 1690) Student Seminar Prevention of voltage collapse in consumption nodes containing large amount of thermostatically controlled loads Dmitry SemchenkoSkolkovo Institute of Science and Technology It has been showed that large assembles of TCLs (thermostatically controlled loads) can potentially lead to uncontrolled progressive voltage drop at load node without voltage control devices. This gradual voltage drop can be caused by initial decrease of voltage at load node due to number of contingencies. Voltage collapse has been modelled for simple 2-bus scheme with heaters as TCLs. Prevention control measures have been proposed to prevent voltage collapse at the node or to postpone gradual voltage drop in order to give more time for control devices at higher voltage levels in the grid to fix initial voltage drop.
