Probing One-Dimensional Electron Systems with Light

Dr. Wade DeGottardi
Texas Tech University

Engineered light-matter coupling is emerging as a powerful tool to probe and control quantum materials. Quantum coherent many-body effects may be observed for coupling strengths that exceed quasiparticle decay rates. While this regime has been well-explored in simple systems, such as the Dicke model, the physics of quantum coherent probes of many-body systems remains largely unexplored. In this talk, I will present recent work investigating the many-body effects associated with the emission of light from a finite-sized quantum wire. The multi-photon cascades are characterized by a competition between Dicke superradiance and Pauli blocking. This work demonstrates how quantum entanglement may be generated and measured in a quantum wire. I will also discuss previous work on thermal radiation from a 1D electron liquid, which possess signatures of electron-electron interactions.
