The Los Alamos Common Modeling Framework Project

Dr. Leslie Sherrill
LANL/XTD

Over the past decade, the LANL Weapons Physics Directorate (ALDX) has been developing a modern software repository called the Common Modeling Framework (CMF). This tool began as a grassroots effort to capture institutional knowledge and provide model archiving, simulation setup pedigree, and peer review to many organizations across ALDX. CMF is now a formal project in the ASC Verification and Validation Program, and it brings together many mission-critical projects and programs. As a modern software repository, its goal is to enable a streamlined workflow for over a hundred scientific modelers and to house a variety of common models that can be used for a range of applications. CMF supports independent modeling strategies for many areas of interest, including high energy density physics experiments, small-scale experiments, and other mission applications. This talk will introduce the philosophy behind the CMF, describe recent endeavors to provide connections to institutional data repositories, and will provide highlights of recent ICF and small-scale experimental work modeled in the framework.
