It is a sad truth that all practical cryptosystems require us to gamble on at least one (but usually two or more) unproven assumptions. If history is any guide, some of today's popular assumptions will turn out to be false. This talk explores how cryptosystems fail, and proposes some strategies for improving system and organization resilience against cryptographic failures.
