Investigation on Numerical Methods for Scientific Computing and Software Development

Jin Xu
Institute of Software, Chinese Academy of Sciences

In this talk, some numerical methods frequently used as well as some high-order methods in scientific computing will be explained briefly first. Then the challenges of software development based on these methods and parallel methods for large scale computing will be present. Then application of these numerical methods in some specific areas will be discussed, such as fluids, beam dynamics, biomolecules, electromagnetics and MHD, etc. Based on these, comparison for these methods will be summarized. These software packages provide solid background for more sophisticated simulations in the future.
