DFT from the outside: some rigorous results

Paul Lammert
Pennsylvania State University

In this informal talk, we will look at quantum density functional theory as an interesting object of study in its own right. Knowledge of DFT is not assumed, just familiarity with (first-quantized) many-body QM. A suitable convex analysis framework for the basic concepts will first be set up. Then, we will discuss recent results on the surprising subtlety of the Hohenberg-Kohn "theorem", and the reason Kohn-Sham iteration works.
