Domain Specific Languages for Modeling and Simulation

Models are becoming steadily more complex, requiring additional efforts in design and validation. In this talk I will take a closer look what role domain specific languages can play in these modeling and simulating efforts. The syntax and the semantics of domain specific modeling languages determine, how easy, and what system can be described, respectively. Domain-specific languages are also applied for supporting simulation experiments. The specification in a domain-specific language helps storing, revising and adapting simulation experiments. How both, domain-specific languages for modeling as well as for simulation experiments, may influence modeling and simulation, and may contribute to mastering the challenges of developing and validating more complex models, will be discussed based on methods developed for the area of systems biology.
