Quantum Hall effects in monolayer MoS2

Xiao Li
University of Texas at Austin

In this talk I am going to discuss the quantum Hall effects in monolayer MoS2, a two-dimensional electron system that has attracted much attention in the past two years. The most prominent features of this system are the large band gap and substantial spin-orbit couplings. As a result, its spin and valley degrees are coupled, giving rise to novel ways to control the electronic properties in the system. I will first discuss interesting aspects in its single-particle Landau level structures, and mention how they manifest themselves in magnetoluminescence measurements. I will then turn to reveal how the valley polarization in this system can be controlled by tuning the external magnetic field and the doping level.
