Topological superconductor - Luttinger liquid junctions

Ian Affleck
University of British Columbia

A quantum wire with strong spin orbit coupling, in a magnetic field and proximity coupled to an s-wave superconductor, is predicted to have a topological phase with a Majorana mode localized at each end of the superconducting portion of the wire. At a junction between this topological superconductor and one or more interacting normal quantum wires, interesting physics occurs due to the coupling to the Majorana mode, including quantum frustration and a resulting non-trivial critical point.
