Antiferromagnetism and Superconductivity in the Iron Pnictide Superconductors

Nick Curro
UC Davis

The recent discovery of superconductivity in the iron pnictides has reignited interest in high temperature superconductivity. Similar to the heavy fermion and cuprate oxide superconductors, the superconductivity in the iron pnictides emerges close to the border of antiferromagnetism, and there is a great deal to be learned by comparing and contrasting the resulting phenomena present in these different classes of materials. Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) can shed important light on the microscopic interplay of these order parameters, and results will be presented for several different single crystal materials which indicate that the competition between ground states drives inhomogeneity.
