New classes of energetic materials based on the reactions of metals are being developed. They are typically in the materials with either a metal or polymer matrix and randomly distributed metallic particles. The structural characteristics and the reaction mechanisms of these materials are of considerable interest. This talk will focus primarily on modeling the structural response of these materials, but will also discuss some earlier research on simulating shock-initiated chemical reactions in powder mixtures.
