ISTC Seminar: Selections from "Discrete Sciences" Research at DIMACS and DyDAn

Fred Roberts
Rutgers University

The talk will describe a few examples of research at DIMACS, the Center for Discrete Mathematics and Theoretical Computer Science based at Rutgers University, and at DyDAn, the Department of Homeland Security Center of Excellence for Dynamic Data Analysis that is based at DIMACS and is one of the DHS "discrete sciences" centers. The talk will discuss container inspection algorithms, nuclear detection using taxicabs or police cars, and rapid summarization of crime statistics for the Port Authority of New York/New Jersey. Other topics to be discussed include health effects of climate change, new biosurveillance tools, and privacy-preserving data analysis.

Host: Nick Hengartner, Infromation Sciences (CCS-3) and Frank Alexander, Leader, IS&T Center
