Numerical Bifurcation Analysis of Ocean Flows on Parallel Computers

To understand the physics of internal variability of the ocean circulation, techniques of numerical bifurcation theory have shown to beuseful. We present methods that allow us to compute branches of steady states in parameter space and perform implicit time integration of primitive equation ocean models with up to a few million degrees of freedom. The increased resolution is achieved by using advanced numerical solvers and parallel computers.
