Mathematics of the Map-seeking Circuit (MSC) Algorithm

Curt Vogel
Montana State University

David Arathorn recently developed a technique which he dubbed the map-seeking circuit algorithm (MSC) for solving difficult problems in visual cognition. In this talk we will introduce a constrained optimization framework for problems to which MSC can be applied. We will analyze the structure of these problems within this framework and present some constrained optimization techniques that appear to be competitive with MSC.
