Quantum Private Queries

Seth Lloyd
Massachusetts Institute of Technology

Larry possesses a database full of valuable information. You want to query that database, and are willing to pay Larry for the privilege to do so. The catch is that, when you receive an answer to your question, you also want assurance that Larry no longer knows what your question was. Classical techniques for such private information retrieval are unwieldy (e.g., Larry sends you the entire database). This talk shows that quantum private queries can be performed simply with existing technologies.

Host: Bob Ecke, T-CNLS
