On the existence of superconductivity between two critical temperatures

Ilya Grigorenko
New York City College of Technology

It is predicted that a system may exhibit superconducting state between two critical temperatures, where the lower critical temperature corresponds to the superconducting transition induced by thermal fluctuations. Superconductivity on a finite temperature interval may be observed in a system of electrons and holes in two spatially separated parallel planes in the case of electron-hole asymmetry caused by the difference in the carriers’ masses and their chemical potentials. It is found that the superconducting state is possible in a wide range of the asymmetry parameters, if they satisfy a simple linear equation.
