Anastasio Fellowship
Michael R. Anastasio spent his technical career within the UC system and was Director of two
UC-led National Laboratories. He was hired as a UC employee in 1980. Anastasio joined Los
Alamos National Laboratory as Director in June of 2006 remained in that role until 2011. He has
been active in his support for LANL and its missions since that time and as a past chair of the
Board of Governors for Triad.
In recognition for his service, LANL is establishing a named, early career faculty position with
UC in areas related to our National Security missions. The intent of the program is to identify a
faculty member within the UC system in a field relevant to LANL’s Weapons or National
Security Missions and support their engagement with LANL through a 3-year research
investment. The competitively selected individual would be offered a LANL Joint Appointment,
engage the Laboratory as visiting scholar and receive research funding of 250K per year for 3
years. The application process would include a research proposal in a targeted area selected by
LANL and the weapons program.
