Mapping and Modeling the Impact of Membrane Topography on Receptor Behavior

Bridget Wilson
Scientific Director, NM Center for Spatiotemporal Modeling University of New Mexico Health Sciences Center

This seminar will feature collaborative projects at the NM Spatiotemporal Modeling Center. A focus of the Center is understanding the impact of diffusion barriers, membrane domains and other features of the membrane landscape on receptor tyrosine kinase and immunoreceptor signaling. We approach this work with a large experimental “toolkit”, including high resolution microscopy techniques (electron microscopy, live cell imaging and single particle tracking) and modern molecular and biochemical approaches. One important goal is to develop and utilize rule-based spatial stochastic models that incorporate parameters from these data sets, providing insight into the influence of membrane organization on the initiation and propagation of signaling.
