I am a theoretical physicist working at Los Alamos National Laboratory, New Mexico, USA. In addition to doing research in elementary particle physics, I am involved in promoting AIDS awareness and prevention, in particular in India. I am doing this by motivating my friends, relatives, and associates and by periodic visits to India. I am using my contacts in India to set up lectures and meetings. For this purpose I have prepared a set of lectures aimed at high school and college students, medical students, doctors, hospital staff, industrialists, parents, and industrial workers. These lectures are currently being incorporated in a year long course on Health, diseases, environment, and sexuality. This course will be made available at this WEB site -- hopefully in the next few months.
These questions were asked by students in Indian schools in Ludhiana, Chandigarh, Delhi, Jaipur, Ajmer, Jodhpur, Udaipur, Dehradoon, Lucknow and Kanpur
Making school students aware of societal issues through a program of discovery, research and self-learning. This motivational approach captures the interest of students through the use of computers and multimedia. The students conceptulize and develop the presentations of their choice including their thoughts, observations, data, ideas, and favorite music. By designing presentations that are aimed at understanding the issues and how change can be brought about, they feel empowered to make the changes in their lives. The presentations students produce are being used to educate others less fortunate.
This proposal, written in Microsoft Word, was developed in collaboration with The George Foundation. It describes our strategy to provide health care and health education in rural India using innovative technologies. A pilot center has been established at the Primary Health Center (PHC) at Bagalur, Tamil Naidu, India. The proposal describes our approach, organization, method of implementation, and the funding required to develop this into a national program.
