The examples of societal problems were seen by them as separate topics and not interrelated issues that should be looked as a whole. Thus the talk did not empower them to understand how these problems effect their lives, how they are the same as faced by students and what they can do to help themselves and their children. I should have picked a few issues and provided very simple examples of how to deal with them and what they could do at home to create a nurturing environment. | |
