Information Science Approaches

Information theory and related approaches of statistical physics can be very powerful tools for analyzing complex biological systems. Our overall approach is to use a diverse set of techniques including machine learning, network theory, belief propagation, nonlinear Monte Carlo, and many other methods currently emerging at the interface between classical information theory and statistical physics. Los Alamos has recently become well recognized for important work at this interface with new connections developing at a rapid rate and with a new awareness of the importance of information science and technology for many future Laboratory programs.
