Cooperative Biological Processes

At the level beyond the cellular level, properties can be emergent in the sense that many cells can act collectively to produce large-scale activity in living things. This class of problems is very much in line with CNLS traditions in spontaneous pattern formation and related nonlinear phenomena.  Some of our main interests are in computational neuroscience where one explores how the individual neurons in the brain organize to perform cognitive function.
