This interdisciplinary workshop will provide an open forum for active interactions between researchers from different subfields. The scope of the conference is a variety of excited state phenomena in several technologically important materials and biosystems, including size-dependent and time-dependent electronic interactions, excited state dynamics, quantum confinement, and carrier transport, emphasizing similarity of the phenomena rather than specifics of the systems.

TALKS

We encourage participation of students and postdocs in the form of contributed talks (15-20 min) and posters. We will try to partially support junior researchers with the funds we have available (up to ~$500). Please inform interested people in your group/department about this opportunity. Potential contributed speakers need to submit titles and abstracts of their presentations directly to Sergei Tretiak (serg@lanl.gov) or, preferably, via the Abstract submission web page. The deadline for submission of contributed paper abstracts is June 15, 2009.

Contributed paper abstracts submission deadline is June 15, 2009

DURATION OF TALKS

Invited talks are 40 minutes + 5 minutes for questions. Contributed talks are 17 minutes + 3 minutes for questions.

Both an LCD projector (for PowerPoint presentations) and a standard overhead projector will be provided. We prefer that you bring your own laptop for PowerPoint presentations, but we have a Mac Laptop which can be used.

SCHEDULE

The program will be posted online as soon as it is available.

PLEASE NOTE: If you have plans to visit LANL (i.e. visit experimental labs and/or meet our researchers), you need an approval from the LANL security office. Depending on the country of residence or birth, such approval can take significant time to process. If you are planning on visiting LANL please contact Sergei Tretiak (serg@lanl.gov) at your earliest opportunity so that we can initiate this paperwork. You may not visit LANL without going through this approval process.
