Los Alamos National Laboratory
August 11-16 2003

The conference is sponsored by Center for Nonlinear Studies, Theoretical, Chemistry, Materials
and Bioscience Divisions at Los Alamos National Laboratory and supported by the
U.S. Department of Energy

Important recent progress in our understanding of size-dependent and time-dependent electronic interactions in electronic nanomaterials and biological complexes within individual nanoscale (quantum-confined) building blocks leads to a variety of novel applications in medicine and industry.

This interdisciplinary workshop will provide an open forum for active interaction between experiment and theory from different subfields encompassing excited state electronic processes in different materials.

Key Topics:

·       Excited state potentials and ultrafast processes in organic materials;

·       Electronic interactions in semiconductor quantum dots;

·       Carrier transport in biological and molecular aggregates.

We encourage participation of students and postdocs in a form of contributed talks (20 min) and posters (the poster boards are 4x4 ft in size) by waiving the registration fee and reimbursing some of their travel expenses (up to $400). Potential contributed speakers need to submit titles and abstracts of their presentations to <esp@cnls.lanl.gov>.  The deadline for submission of contributed paper abstracts is June 1, 2003.

Registration fee for the conference is $150 (waived for invited and contributed speakers).

PLEASE NOTE: The conference will be held in an open area. Therefore, to attend the conference you do not need any special permission. However, if you are a Foreign National (i.e. not US citizen) and have plans to visit LANL (i.e. visit experimental labs and/or meet our researchers), you need an approval from the LANL security office. Depending on the country of residence or birth, such pre-approval can take us as much as 6 weeks to process. If you are a foreign national planning on visiting LANL please contact Christella Salazar <christie@cnls.lanl.gov> at your earliest convenience so that we can initiate this paperwork.
