Condensed Matter and Thermal Physics Postdoctoral and Student Program
Students

The Condensed Matter and Thermal Physics Group has a small number of positions for graduate students, usually in close collaboration with his/her graduate thesis advisor but sometimes as a summer student. The Laboratory Graduate Research Assistant Program is a year-round educational program that provides students with relevant research experience while they are pursuing a graduate degree. In some cases, students can arrange to conduct master's or doctoral thesis research at the Laboratory. Appointments are available for 90 days up to one year, with option for renewal based upon program requirements. Eligibility is limited to applicants who have completed a bachelor's degree by date-of-hire, have been admitted, and are in active status in a graduate program at a college or university. Students are selected on the basis of field of
study, grade point average, research interests and staff member collaboration with his/her thesis advisor.

Other possibilities exist for ambitious undergraduate and high-school co-op students. Interested individuals should contact the appropriate MST-10 Technical Staff Member.

Postdoctoral Program
The Postdoctoral Program in the Condensed Matter and Thermal Physics Group is part of the larger Laboratory-wide Postdoctoral Research Program. Postdocs constitute a large part of research in MST-10 and are given the opportunity to derive significant professional accomplishment and advancement of their career goals by publishing the results of their work, participating in scientific and technical conferences and presenting seminars. Candidates are nominated and sponsored by a member of the MST-10 technical staff. Selection is based on Laboratory-wide competition and is determined by the candidate's academic qualifications and research excellence. Positions include Postdoctoral Research Associate, Postdoctoral Research Fellow, and the Distinguished Postdoctoral Fellowships - J. Robert Oppenheimer Fellow and Frederick Reines Fellow. Contacting individual technical staff members regarding possible postdoctoral positions is advised for potential candidates.Condensed Matter and Thermal Physics Postdoctoral and Student Program.
