Chemical and Biological Activity in Flows

official web page: http://www.mpipks-dresden.mpg.de/~actiflow

Nature is permeated by phenomena in which active processes, such as chemical reactions and biological interactions, are superimposed on nonlinear mixing dynamics. The mixing is supplied by a fluid flow that is characteristic of an embedding environment like the atmosphere and the oceans. In most cases, the active process has a spatial and nonlinear character coupled locally to the nonlinear mixing dynamics and may lead to large-scale emergent complex phenomena. The event on Chemical and Biological Activity in Flows at MPIPKS sets out to bring together researchers in different fields of expertise to advance the study of the effects of imperfect mixing on various ensembles of chemically and biologically active particles. In particular, one of  the main goals is investigate the unification of the recently developed approaches and to delineate future research problems and directions both in fundamental (experimental and theoretical) and applications oriented (design and engineering) approaches to active mixing.

This program consists of: 1) a first Workshop in the period Aug. 26 - 30; 2) a Seminar period Aug 31 - Sept 22; and a second Workshop in the period Sept 23-27.

Please note: the lists below are tentative and incomplete, we tried to follow the requests of all the participants who replied. In case when a participant did  not know which workshop he/she is going to attend we took the liberty to enlist him/her in one of the workshops such that the participation is more or less evenly distributed.
