Pattern Dynamics - No Rotation

Below is the Busse balloon for Prandtl Number ~ 1 and data from Hu et al and Morris et al for the mean pattern wavenumber k =2p/l where l is the pattern wavelength versus the reduced bifurcation parameter e = DT/DTc-1. Selecting the red dots will show animated data sequences at that parameter value. Details of the data sequences are given below.

 

Rotating Convection Dynamics

Rotation about a vertical axis causes dramatic changes in the dynamics of the patterns. Below the phase diagram of reduced bifurcation parameter e(W) versus W is shown with circle buttons indicating parameter values for which there is a data animation.
