Labyrinth

This is a time dependent computer generated solution of the doubly-diffusive FitzHugh-Nagumo reaction-diffusion equations in two space dimensions. For the parameters chosen this system has two uniform states (white and red) and front and pulse solutions connecting them in space. The initial condition of a bent stripe in the red state is unstable to transverse pertubations and small disturbances grow. The solution meanders with splitting of the propagating tips until it fills the entire domain with a labyrinthine pattern.
