Pandemic H1N1 Influenza: An Epidemiological Update

Ruy Ribeiro
Theoretical Biology and Biophysics

At the beginning of the 2010-2011 influenza season, it is appropriate to revisit what we know about the spread of the first pandemic influenza of the 21st century: novel H1N1 influenza. I will present what is known about the spread and effect (morbidity and mortality) of last year's pandemic, and discuss how we know (or don't know) the actual epidemiological numbers. One question of interest is: can modeling help develop more accurate estimates of those numbers, and what data would be needed?
