JIM KRUMHANSL: SCIENCE & POLICY

JANUARY 12, 2005

J. ROBERT OPPENHEIMER STUDY CENTER
LOS ALAMOS NATIONAL LABORATORY
LOS ALAMOS, NEW MEXICO USA

This symposium will celebrate Jim Krumhansl's life as a scientist and his role as policy maker, leading in particular to his widespread impact on condensed matter physics and materials science. Jim passed away on May 6, 2004 at the age of 84, a physicist until the very end. During his nearly 60 year career, he was a mentor, colleague, and friend to many and also served the entire physics community as an educator, manager, director, editor, and advisor. At Los Alamos we are fortunate for his visionary service as a senior fellow under four Lab directors.
