JUNE 9-11, 2003 J. Robert Oppenheimer Study Center |
|||||||
June, 2003 marks the 50th anniversary of the Metropolis, Rosenbluth, Rosenbluth, Teller, and Teller publication of what is now called the Metropolis algorithm. This algorithm made the Monte Carlo method a general purpose fixture for studying the properties of physical systems and sparked the development of other Monte Carlo algorithms. The conference will review the use of the Metropolis algorithm and the Monte Carlo Method in the physical sciences, highlight recent developments, and note the spread of the Monte Carlo method to other fields. It will emphasize algorithms and algorithmic issues.
